Default Weekend Fishing Report - July 27-28

Had a really fun weekend. We got up early on Saturday, July 27 and left our boat dock in Old Settlement around 5:50 a.m. and went straight to the new Big Jack's Reef in South Big Lake. Water looked great. Caught about 60 trout, but only kept 17, since most were less than 14 inches (we try not to keep trout less than 14 inches, although we violated that rule on some). We moved to Long Point around 8 a.m., but wind was too strong and water were not great. Decided to go back to Jack's Reef, the tide was not moving and the bite turned off. We then decided to go behind Weir #3 (Lambert's Weir?) and try crabbing. We went through the weirs and to the right and crabbed for about an hour. Caught about 4 dozen crabs. On our way out, our friend was fishing just behind the Weirs and said he caught a few trout. We decided to fish for trout and caught about 12 nice sized trout, including a 4 lb trout. Total for the day - about 75 trout with 29 keeper trout and 4 dozen blue crabs. We threw plastics for the fish and the color didn't really matter. Caught on Little Johns and other baits. Fished from 6 a.m. and got back to the dock at 2:4 p.m. Long day, but a lot of fun. We tried on Sunday morning for a few hours at Big Jack's Reef, but it was slow and we had to leave by 8:30 a.m. to beat the storms and go home. Overall, the weekend was a success. LIG, LTD (Life is Good, Living the Dream). Thanks to W for the suggestion on Big Jack's.
