Default Visiting and want to go fishing! Need Help

Hello, I am coming down to LA to do some marine research on the local marshes and I am an avid fisherman. I am a student from NJ and have never been to LA. I will be staying at LUMCON near the end of Little Caillou Rd and wont have a car. Are there any good places to fish on this road? What is running now and how would you fish for them? I would really like to try fishing if I have any spare time at all (Im bringing a portable fishing rod).
Thanks a lot guys!

I don't know where LUMCON is but if you get down this way you there are some areas you can fish from the bank on Prien lake. You could also fish the pier down at Cameron if you can find a way down there.

You can catch flounder, speckled trout (spotted trout in NJ) and redfish here.

Maybe somebody will take you out. You need to tell us when you will be here.

If you have access to a kayak which you should at Lumcon, you can fish the Marsh around there. Gold spoons on top of grass beds. Get rid of that colapsable pole and get something decent.

Thanks for the info guys. LUMCON is in Cocodrie at the end of Little Caillou Rd.

Im coming down next week and I am staying a week. I am not sure if I will get time to fish (but I always seem to find time

So what type of shrimp? Grass shrimp? Also, do killifish work?

Would a black sea bass rig like this work with two hooks and a weight on the bottom:

I always wanted to catch a Red or speckled trout! That would be awesome!

Gold spoons? I will go pick them up now. About how big? Like large moth bass sized (1in or 2in about)? The collapsable rod is all I can bring bc I am flying out there. I have caught 20lb cats on it so I hope I can manage. Maybe I can take my freshwater rod?

Are the grass beds submerged marsh grass or like eel grass (seaweed type beds) Will they be visible?

Thanks again everyone!!!

Either Johnson spoon or something like a Red Ripper. Needs to run on top of the grass/water.

PM sent. Also, somebody at LUMCON should know where to wet a line off the bank at the end of the road down there.

My classmate works there.

Get a weedless gold spoon. I use 3/8 oz. You going to have fun..... its 3 miles south from the middle of nowhere. One of the top fishing spots in the US.

You can buy shrimp down there. You can catch reds by just putting dead shrimp on a jig head and bouncing it along the bottom.

You probably won't want to go back to Jersey after a week in Cocodrie.

Dude, you are in for a treat. Killifish are called cocahoes down here/there and they work very well.

I hope you are right So I will try using a gold spoon, shrimp on a jig head, and cacajoes (killifish)! Cast over grass beds around the marsh and see what happens. I think I have my bases covered!

So the cocahoes are gulf killifish right? Do you use large ones or will flounder sized work? Does the black sea bass rig I posted above work or should I set it up differently?

Thanks a lot everyone. You have all been so helpful and are getting me so so so excited to get down there!!!!

I caught specks by the light in the back of LUMCON at night when I was there quite a few years ago. Also if you go out on the boat with them and pull the trawl don't let them throw the shrimp back. Ask if you can keep them because if you don't they will throw them back.
