Default Catfish Locks

Just wondering - with the drought in the area and low river levels - has anyone gotten any reports from the Catfish Locks or Mud Lake area. I am thinking of going do some scouting there one afternoon this week.

Grand Lake is correct. We have had good cathes there when the drought years hit us. Lots of reds and a few specks come from the locks when the water gets right. Just wondering if it was getting "right".

Went to my podnas camp in lake arthur saturday. We limited out on redfish and a few bass south of the locks in grand lake. All fish were caught on rattle traps and gold spoons. Heard there were some trout caught by the locks....we did not feel like fighting the crowd so we went elsewhere.

The water at the locks and Mermentau upper end is beautiful it has a bout a 2.5 ft difference at the locks, fished 5 days up around the locks catching some good trout on plastic under popping corks on the flats south between Little Chenier and the locks. Plenty of Redfish in upper Mud lake fishing the banks and old reefs at Bird island. Catching redfish on plastics and some on topwater. Should stay good with what little rain fall we have had. The locks open hourly and only on the hour if boat traffic is there, if not they stay closed.

They are opening the locks but only on the hour if a boat is there to go through and only long enough for the boat to pass through. The last time I went through down stream, I had to get up to about 4K RPM to get through because of the difference. My uncle came through (headed North) with his shrimp boat the other day and was making 11 knots going through the lock with the boat in clutch at 600 RPM.

Well, with this rain this week, it will probably kill the bite for a few days.

Raymond, Great site. Do you know at what salinity level redfish would NOT be in an area?

I have caught reds in grand lake when the water was as fresh as toledo bend. As long as they have food it dont bother them one bit.
