[QUOTE=alexm;816013]Any size to your catch? I haven't heard of much beyond barely legal coming out of the lake lately.

Yeah, nothing really big. Caught a LOT just over 16". Threw a ton of those back. We decided on only keeping at least 17". Out of 25 fish for the 2 days, most of them were 17-19". We had two 20" and one 22".

Not sure how to post pics...

Well the 2 boats that came park right in the middle in front of us were both from Texas. We could overhear them talking. One of them was surely closer than 50' to weir

I think it's 125 feet, actually. The signs state something along the lines of "No activities except for boat passage, next 250 feet." That would be 125 feet on either side of the weir = 250 feet total.

I'm pretty sure as long as you're not between the sign and the weir, you're OK.

And at $250/person, that's some seriously expensive redfish.

If people only knew the concept for why they have a 250ft barrier .
This is for safety.

It's going to take 1 boat anchored in middle of channel illegally and a father with his young kids will be coming through the weirs with a strong tide and run into a boat anchored illegal .

Consequences will be tragic and over a trashy red Drum could cost a person a life or child .

Let that sink in

They're not the most sought after fish on big lake ranked 3rd for most anglers
And yes we catch them and keep them but not going to put someone's life in danger over them when I can catch at will along a bank

I go behind the Weirs often, but not to fish at the weirs. It amazes me that folks will subject themselves to the Sh$# show at the weirs when within a short distance from them are beautiful grassy flats with clear water and often schooling fish.

Have to be opened mined ...
Lot are just narrow minded and look no farther than that .. I've heard guys at the landing talk about how there day sucked and was ruined because they scratched at every weir.

Had one guy tell me , man this sucked never could get a spot at the weirs and I waisted 2 hours driving here to come back with zero .

We told him did you try anywhere else ? He said no
I said if you would of just tried 100 yards down the banks you could of caught all the reds your arms could stand .

He said man I didn't think they would be on the banks

10 years ago, the fine was $225 per person...... surprised the fine only went up to $ 250.

LOL combine the harbor scene from Jaws with the bar scene from Star Wars and you get a pretty good picture of what goes on out there.

Quit fishing weirs years a go for this reason. And your right just because u don't see them don't mean they not there. I been checked one time on the lake and that was last year. I have been checked a dozen times behind weirs. Once I think he just knew he had me. I caught my limit of reds fairly quick then caught and released a few more and all of sudden the big trout made a run. After 7-8 trout caught and thrown in ice chest there he came. Checked all over that boat. I was thinking he couldn't see exactly wat kind of fish I was catching and thought I was over limit on reds. Never pays to break the rules!

Banks, points, drains, reefs, cuts, rocks and my beloved flats. Redfish like all kind of terrain and with as many as there are in our estuaries you can usually find them on most of the above on any given day.
