Listen to the DVD, blow a little, then go to the country and call some yard ducks
from a place that they can not see you.
Wild ducks do not sound nothing like the DVD's. Some sound high pitched and raspy,
some sound low pitched and clean.
Learn to toot a whistle too. Grays, Pintail, Teal and Widgeon work good with a whistle
too.

I've got an orange colored haydel speck call...sounds like a specklebelly with the craps when I try to use it.

You'll be rolling your butt to jail as well...Game Wardens will have a field day wit ya!

And besides I wouldn't use a call...I'd use them recordings of those suckers in a field or pond eating their butts off!!

There are lots of opinions on calls and callers, here is my 2c: I use the Haydel VTM 90 which is basically a DR-85 with a hole in the barrel. My buddy who was is a trumpet player in high school has great breath control. He uses a Yentzen Mod 500 (made in Grooves, Texas) and he can hypnotize the greenheads. I never could master the Yentzen, it's not for beginners. I would suggest getting a good whistle, I like Haydels MP-90. I can't make it sing like Ron and Eli can, but you are not very likely to flare ducks with a whistle while you are learning. Lastly, get a teal call ,BT-85, is what I use. It's not the easiest call to blow but the first time you turn a bunch of teal you'll be hooked. You can get so involved in the calling that you you're late on the shooting part. Welcome to your latest passion! http://www.haydels.com has some good audio tips on calling. I'll admit that I am not very good at spec calling. My buds that are addicts use a Redbone spec call and stuffer decoys. http://www.redbonecalls.com These are extravagantly expensive but they are the ultimate. It's worthwhile to visit their website. Even Nate Wright admits that the key to consistently killing specs is location, location, location. It doesn't matter how good you are at calling if they aren't using the field, your results will be spotty at best. Get some yourself some calls, practice, and enjoy.

Yeh it sounds great! My buddy bought one. He said he got it from Lafayette Shooters. Only reason he bought it was it was only speck call they had. It really does sound good though. It is very easy to get to break. He was the one I said sounded like a yorkie! He hasn't quite got it! But if u are having trouble gettin your speck call to break, check it out very easy to blow! I actually gave one of my other buddies a few tips on how to blow it and by the end of the night he sounded decent! He is a good duck caller though!

Hey man, Pleeeeeeeeeese don't come out of the house with a Mr T starter set!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One duck call and one whistle for now and D and I will probably make you keep them in your pocket. Don't want them things to get cold, really affects the sound quality. Meet me at the LAKE front around 10'ish Friday night and we can practice.

I haven't set lips on any call except a wood duck call. I'm gonna make that my goal before next duck season.

Just gave jordan a nice lil pep talk about calling...By no means do i consider my self REALLLT REALLY good. But i can hold my own when it comes to calling (especially now). Told him hes just going to have to spend the summer cranking up on it, and practicing.
