Mallard hen call
I'm thinking of getting a "higher end" mallard call. Even thinking of trying a single reed...what's everyone's favorite call and is you preference single or double reed?

Promos Wench, VTM-90 or DR85.
Man I have blown some of the higher end calls and I just don't like the way they sound. I can't hit the soft notes and manipulate the sounds like I can with a VTM-90, DR85, or Primos Wench. I do however recommend Lance Chapman with Redemption Game Calls; he makes some really cool custom calls and a hell of a nice guy. |

For price, ease of blowing and quality sound ya can't beat these two!

For the price, any Haydel or even Primos call is hard to beat.

One of my favorite calls is the Carbon Kwacker by Haydel. Good sound.

I've been known to flail my fingers around a time or two when using that call!

I would love a group next to me blowing a wench. They might kill some early but when a call matters they'll wait til we are done. RNT short barrel , hobo double reeds kick butt for ppl that can drive them. Just gotta know when to call.

Yea the competition highball might work up there, but them ducks have a much higher IQ by the time they reach our coast. They have run the gauntlet seen and heard it all so IMO less is more.
I don't care who you are but you can't make a duck listen. |

Pffft. Keep that up in Arkansas. On Fausse Pointe, its not uncommon to have 6 blinds calling at the same birds and I use an old Faulks call. I let everyone blow those fancy calls and highball at the ducks. With the Faulks you can really choke it down and get a perfect sound of what I call the scaup "gargle" and get their attention so they will come within 60 yards and then its time to meet the 3.5 inch triplee BB widowmaker

I'll start working on the patent now. Faulk's single reed cocobolo cut down key hole timber style scaup gargle. We gawn be rich boys..
