Default Cameron loop dredging approved

The dredging of the Cameron Loop and East Fork of the Calcasieu River is about to become a reality. On Tuesday evening the Cameron Parish Police Jury awarded the bid to King Fisher Marine, for $12,961,571.
Additional funds from the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration to cover the cost of beneficial spoil use in marsh creation had not been made available by the time the bids were opened, so the Jury chose to use the original plan to place spoil along the eroded coastline.
"They've had since January or February to get this money, and are no further along," said Thomas McDaniel. "We can't wait any longer." The bid amount included an additional $10,000 to remove sunken debris located outside the dredged channel. It will be 90 days or more before actual
dredging begins.

Yep. They don't have to dredge the ship channel thru Cameron, it scours itself and
keeps the depth where they need it.
The loop is less than 15 ft. Most of the spoil will be piped away, but it will cause some cloudy water.

What body of water is called the Cameron Loop?

Does anyone know how much longer they will be dredging in the ship channel......seems like this has been going on for 6+ months now in the 9 mile cut area. How far down the channel will this dredging be done?

They are dredging from Jr.'s cut up to Lake Charles. That is being done by the Port of Lake Charles. They are dredging from South to North right now. On the East side of the channel.
The "Loop" is the old river area around Monkey Island. They are dredging that area and the East Fork of the river from Marker 56 to just before T-Boys. They are mainly looking to dredge the commercial dock area's to keep the oilfield business. This is being done by the parish with federal funds.

It's about time, I hear alot of complaining by boat captains when the water is low around Monkey Island. They drag bottom alot and in some places they have to hit it with some speed or they'll get stuck.

Default Ship Channel Dredging

They have started dredging the ship channel close to Spicer's and pumping the dredge spoil to Black Lake.

They started dredging the ship channel a couple months ago. They started around Jr. Cut, on the East side of the ship channel working their way North.

I don't think they are going to fill in Black Lake. They are going to fill in what was once marshland that is now open water. It is filling in private land, not public waters.
I saw the presentation that the Port of Lake Charles showed a couple years ago when it was in the planning stages.
