Default Vacation on V-Bay

Took off Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of this week to go catch me a couple shrimp for the freezer. The shrimp are everywhere!! Ended up catching 180 lbs. of shrimp all 30-40 ct. I did end up catching my first ever spoon bill cat (funny looking fish). Also smacked a few good reds over the weekend.

Nice catch and thanks for the report....

Question: Is it legal to catch spoonbill in Saltwater...Just asking.

a. Area - The taking or possession of paddlefish is closed in all saltwater areas of the state and in border waters shared with Texas.

I trawled around Marsh Island. I wouldn't say the waters chocolate milk but definitely mirky. I found bigger shrimp in between cyp. point and blue point in the deep but a little too rough for my liking. LOL

Spoonbill...That tells you how fresh the water is in the bay right now.

Nice catch! I went yesterday eve. Kept 3 17"-18" released a 30" fish had 2 break me off in grass and hooked a shark... Should have had limit but I was getting trigger happy and missed 4-5 fish.

Default Don't think you can keep Spoonbill catfish

under any circumstances unless that changed in the last few years. My dad used to catch them around the Mermentau River area in gill nets back in the 80's. Then these guys from Tennessee I believe started wiping out the population for their caviar which resulted in them banning the catch of them. That's been a long time ago though so I'm not sure of current regulations.

Now you can keep two spoonbills if they are 30" or longer. Have to be caught on hook and line though and can't keep them if below the saltwater line.

speaking of the salinity in the bay, I heard LDWF was going to start injecting distilled water to raise the salinity..........

on the bright side, ATch River at BLR is at 12 ft and dropping. It has dropped a foot in the last 10 days.
