Default A week of Venice Tuna Fishing

[SIZE=3]Thanks to you and a little help from the weather, I was able to fish 7 days in a row this past week. I think the weather is trying to get right but who knows!

Just wanted to share a litte info on the past trips. For the most part, fishing has been good.

I have not been able to get on a solid wahoo bite in a while but I do think we will get a few more runs for the winter bite. It was not from a lack of pulling baits, I guess not the right place at the right time which is common for the hooters.

We have been able to venture offshore to the floaters and we are catching yellowfin there but I have not been able to get into many big fish out there. We had 15 yellowfin caught from the floaters one day and next day only found 2. Now these are not huge fish, most are 30-40 pounds but for guys that have never really caught tuna, it was still 15 yellowfin. We are catching some on the troll, some on chunks and even some on poppers. Looks like summer is on the way.

As for big fish, we have been able to catch a few nice ones in close. most days we are catching 1-4 solid yellowfin around 100 pounds and a pile of 20-30 pound blackfin. One day we shut the blackfin down at 31, I think we could have sank the boat with them. Dont know about you but sinking one boat is enough for me so we shut it down! Most of these fish are being caught on chunks of bonita and pogies!

We did hook our first dolphin of the year the other day. Notice I said hooked and not land?? This fish took and Illander, made some jumps, long fight for a mahi then it gets boat side and I am all smiles cause its big as hell. Matt tells me he will leader the fish, tells me to stick it, I mis the gaff shot, fish makes a hard run and pulls hooks in front of me. I may be mad at myself a few weeks for that one! haha It was awesome to see the big fish on line.

Amberjack are still there for those of you who dont mind dropping the jig. Live bait shouldnt be far behind and you will be able to drop a monster hardtail down to them soon.

I will be back at it for the next 10 days if the weather holds. We still have open dates to fish, even have a few saturdays for one of the boats! Look forward to seeing you out there. If you see the Deja Vu and need a hand, call me on the radio!! Need to send a shout out to Will Wall for helping me out with his Tow Boat! haha

Check us out in the Louisiana Sportsman for April, we should have an article in there somewhere!

Lets go fishing!
