Salt does nothing but make them throw up what they have in their stomach. Obviously this isn't much. Nothing gets the mud off em except rinsing. Save the salt for the boiling pot. |

I think thats the whole point of "purging", to clean them out. If you want cleaner crawfish you have to purge. The mud will come off with the rinsing.

Good ness gracious how did our dads and paw paw's survive on the real seasoning?? LOL
I am still old school, bags, liquid and "other" seasoning. NO ice. heck, no one ever turns them down. |

Only way to purge crawfish is to keep them in a holding tank and let nature run it's course. Like he said, salt only makes them puke not crap.

Puking is still getting somthing out. No one has time to keep them in holding tank for a few days. Salt purging in an ice chest is to get out what you can before cooking. Dont think anyone really cares that much, just do what they can.

Which is so minimal no one can tell the difference. You cannot clean them out unless you keep them in freshwater holding tanks like already mentioned. At least salt is cheap but waste is waste.

There is a place in Lafayette that boils crawfish and have there own seasoning. My father in law picked it up one time, just cant remember the name. But i thought it was pretty good. Maybe some of the Lafayette guys will know.
