Default laws / rules for fishing ship channel near plants

Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as any laws/rules on distance that must be kept from shoreline and docks on plants properties in the ship channel. I spoke with the coast guard and they sent me a map of the security zones at the two LNG plants and PPG. They are charged with these areas. Most of the west bank is owned by one or another of the local plants and I am getting conflicting reports how far from their property/shore you can fish. Any information will be appreciated.

I've always understood it to be stay off the banks, do not go near active docks, do not tie up to any dock and stay out of security zones. Should be god to go. They may not want you fishing their their docks but if you dont tie up, I don't think there is much they can do legally.

Most wont say much unless their dock is active. I do beleive they have a legal right and duty to enforce security. Them plants with docks have to pay for their dock space in the water giving them the right to that water.

The coast guard told me last yr that anything in between I think it was the second bouy in the west side of the PPG turnaround was off limits.

Do these plants have any signs up so that someone not familiar with the area will know to stay a certain distance?

You have to understand that LNG is kinda sorta flammable and some like to do harm to the good ol US of A. It is what it is, and if staying back 300 ft is what they want me to do, then I will. Got ran out of whatever that canal is right as you go left outta Calc Pt and then hang another left down there (Intracoastal maybe?). Was trying to catch bait and got told to go elsewhere. I gave him a piece of my mind as I was turned away from him

thanks a lot bin Laden

I would say it is a security thing since the terrorism stuff started. Ppg has some very nasty and explosive chemicals leaving those docks. They have you on camera way before you even think about getting close.

You are correct Paul. I called the coast guard and the CPSO marine division today. I have attached the info from the coast guard on the 3 security zones. Both they and the sheriff's dept. said that there is no law on the books in regards to maintaining a specific distance from docks or shoreline. They advise to stay a safe distance away from any dock that has a vessel moored to it or that has people working on it. The deputy said to remember that "if plant security personel ask you to back away a little that they are just doing their job so be courteous".
