Default Boat incident at Grand Bayou Weir

Does anyone know any details about the boat that was damaged at Grand Bayou on Sunday?
I heard that it hit something deep in the middle of the weir and totaled out a big bay boat.

Man that sucks. I know I've gone through the gate when the tide was really ripping out and hit something as the front of the boat crested over the water on the inside. Was it at the gate or simply out in the middle?

The guy hit something solid under the gate as he was coming out. Damaged the lower unit and was taking on water. Tried to beach it in the shallow on the side but by the time they got there the boat was flooded and shorted out all the electrical so the pump stopped. when they went to pull it the boat flipped over and they finally got it back upright and got it in, had to work on the motor several hours to get it running but looks like a total out.

Does anybody know what caused him to hit it? That opening has been passed through 1000's of times and this is the first time I've heard of someone hitting something.

Big west wind all weekend. If I had to guess, he hit whatever he hit in between swells because there was some pretty good size waves out there. But I've never been to the weirs so I could be wrong.

Hopefully it wasn't the boat that was anchored in the path out of the weirs that caused this.

Give us the scoop, "W". How in the world could that happen? Some big ole boats go through that gate all the time. I don't even trim my motor when I go through. Guess I better start.

said he was going back thought the weirs and they had a huge tide coming in so when he gassed it to come though he hit the cement bottom of the gate I assume due to dragging so deep

then after he came through he took on water from the back end and not to help the winds were over 30mphs and they keep adding water over the back of the boat till it was full and could not go!!
