New Arrival
I have just moved to the New Iberia area, always fished fresh water and only have a 20ft bass boat. Does anyone have any advice for fishing the Vermilion bay. My interest is reds and trout. And what to use if possible. Thanks in advance. |

hey skeeter, are you familiar with the different boat ramps available to you to fish vermillion bay close to new iberia? there are quite a few from cote blanche, the point, avery, delcambre, to intracoastal city, you shouldn't have any problems launching from the most of them, i wouldn't recomend you to use the port canal launch due to debris in the canal and a loooonnggg no wake zone, avery isn't bad except for the buzzards that hang out cleaning up after the people who go there to crab that can't pick up after themselves, the buzzards like to get on your vehicle, with the water in the river being low the fishing in the bay should be good, if you hit it at the right time and place, the mouth of the avery usually produces this time of year along with a couple of other little canals that are west of the avery to the bay, i like to ride the banks and find little cuts into the marsh fish where the water is moving the best

Hook N Line makes a good map that shows most of the good fishing areas. When you go to the point the first gas station on the right in lydia called dagos sells em.

Get ya a gavl/ alum. trailer if you don't already have one. Steel doesn't do well in sw...figure out the tides fish a moving tide, look for bait and water clarity. If you get those, there will be fish close by. Good luck...

you only need the galvanized trailer 3-4 months out the year.

You ain't kiddin! I'll say that if he's never fished the bay and he's going to start this time of year he's going to have a misconception of what it's like most of the year... Muddy and fresh and few trout... the bright side is that if you like catching reds they stick around all year... |

I have planed to flush out and wash to keep the salt to a min if possible. Might consider looking into a galv trailer in the future or may just look at a hole new rigg all together. Problem is the need for speed, its a blast running 75-80 mph gives more fish catching time.

won't be able to do the 75-80 most of the year in the bay... stays fairly windy and chopped up. |
