They are waiting because the 4ft of rock that was hauled in is sinking , they are waiting to see if will stop so engineers can decide on how to proceed .

Where???

In the parking area on the west side of the road to the launch? That area was fairly low and swampy, so it would not surprise me that it would "settle" some.

Or.... on either side of the road, down near the launch?

I did not notice any sinking..... but I was not looking that close. I might have stop there again to have a closer look.

I looked at some of the pictures I took and see 2 possible areas that could be sinking.

First, is over on the west side of the parking area. In the center-left part of the picture it looks like the rocks might be "sagging" a little.

Or..... maybe, at the end of the boat ramp??? Could this dirt be sinking?

3 rd pic...... rocks look ok there.

Stopped at the boat launch a couple days ago and there has been some progress.

The boat bay is full of water now that the retaining wall has been removed and could be used ???? .......except you would have to have the outboard engine tilted up to keep it from hitting while backing up to the concrete ramp.

There is a "bump" [elevation change] from the road bed level up the the ramp concrete.

I also walked around looking for any "sinking" of the rocks that have been hauled in. I did not see anything that looked really bad......but on the west side near the edge the rocks [surface] is a little low [~ 6-8"] for about 10 feet along the edge. I could not tell if this is due to sinking or maybe it never was leveled off when the rocks were put there.

I drove passed the boat launch today and saw that the road leading to the ramp has about 20 loads of "fill rock" dumped on it now. Sorry no pictures.

Thanks for the update. I keep forgetting my camera to take some pictures.

Also looks like they are adding a turn lane off the main road to make it better on traffic flow.

Here a few more updated pictures.

In the last few weeks, progress has been slow. Still pouring concrete and more to be poured. I don't think any concrete has been poured in the last few weeks and there has almost been no rain this fall.

The boat launch / parking area project is supposed to be completed in a little over a year. It started back in early April.

If the boat launch really does start to get more use......

There is not much room to tie off very many boats. Maybe they will add some more bulkhead later. I think there are plans for a river front walk, so maybe there will be more room to tie up boats later.

I just read the article from the newspaper and it talks about having a "soft" landing for Kayaks. And they say that the wharf has a "step down" [see picture above] landing on the outside edge so people can easily get in and out of smaller boats. If this is there plan..... they forgot to dredge this area so there will be water there.

There will be parking for 50 boat trailers and 15 vehicles. I am not sure how you can park 50 trailers there. There is lots of space, but not sure how it can all be used, I don't see where 2 lanes can be used to park trailers. Maybe the parking will be similar to Hebers landing, where you park at an angle so you can back out easier. They also say there is a "turnaround" area for the boat trailers.......WHERE? Up by the road or will you circle the parking area?

Other food for thought...... the park is 26.5 acres and the land was purchased in 2009 for $1.5 million. That is $56,600 per acre for half swamp land and half higher ground. I guess you pay for river frontage property.

The cost of the new boat launch and concrete parking area is $2.1 million.

Feb. 11, 2015 Update

I took a few pictures yesterday. While down by the Dock, I saw a guy move the barricade and drive in??????

A little while later I talked to the man. He said he was the construction project Engineer and we talked about the Park.

He said that the only thing remaining to do was to seal the joints between the concrete slabs and then do the stripping for the parking spots. He was hopping to get this work completed by March 15 [about a month from now].

The other thing I learned is that a good portion of the Park will be to the east side of the boat launch. When this part of the park is built, there will be a road connecting the boat launch area to the other parts of the park.

The "soft" landing for Kayaks has been put in place. There is a short path of sand installed just to the west of the boat launch. This area looked ok to put in a small Kayak, but might be tight for a larger Kayak.

We talked about the "erosion" from water draining off the parking area concrete. He said that they would probably put in some larger rocks or concrete to this area.

Over all this work looks great and will rival the Calcasieu Point boat landing as the nices boat launch in southwest Louisiana.

I can't wait to launch there and not have to steer around the "end of ramp" sign in the middle of the launch!

I have driven by several time in the past couple of weeks, but have not seen any work being done.

There has been a lot of rainy day lately, so no work is not surprising.

I stopped by the boat launch on Wed. while it was raining some. No Pic.

To my surprise, the "cracks" between the concrete slabs have been sealed. It looks like a tar looking product was used.

Now only the parking lot "stripping" remains to be completed.
