Default Grand Isle Offshore 6/5 -6/7

Hit the Gulf Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Thursday was calm but the current was ripping rediculously hard which made tieing up, getting bait down, and chumming difficult. Went to a set of rigs 29 miles out of Bridgeside marina at a bearing of 150 deg. in ~200' of water. Water was green. Caught our 3 man limit of 18-22" Red Snapper but that was it.

Friday was by far best day for conditions and catch. Went to the next rig which we fished at last year 41 miles out at at bearing of 150 deg. in ~250' of water. When we got to the rig the grass mats from the rip were AT the rig. Tied on and caught our Four man limit of nice red snapper along with a mangrove and a scamp grouper. The rip was moving out and was 3 miles South so we went out and trolled along the rip with not luck. Then we started throwing gold spoons and catching chicken dolphin. It was every cast for a while so we caught 14 then went back to trolling. No luck again. Only spent about 2 hours at the rip but wish we would have stayed there all day.

Friday conditions were a little rough for the 19' bateau so we went to a group of rigs we had succes at last year during fall snapper season which is more to the East but only 22 miles from Marina. These rigs were in ~175' of water. Cauht our 4 man limit of red snapper which were a little smaller than the previous days.

FishMaster 911 tagged and released 21 Red Snapper. Looking forward to a recapture! Last year he tagged an AJ that was caught again 4 days later.

There are so many of those endangered Red Snapper that we had trouble catching anything else. It is really rediculous!

Nice. You don't see any triple tails on those rips like that? I don't go offshore much. Just a few miles out of Cameron for trips.

I never have.
We saw thousands of chicken dolphin and we did see some LARGE shadows lurking a little deeper. We couldn't tell what they were but I sure wish we could have hooked one.

I am not sure what were doing wrong while trolling.
We only trolled for about 45 minutes.

We stayed ~20-50' off of the grass mats.

I had one bait short around 50' behind the boat and one bait long around 100'.
We trolled at 3-5 mph.

I learned all of this from Captain Eddie Burger while on guided trips but we always trolled around platforms never grass mats.

If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.

Always willing to help out a fellow angler!

I am glad y'all had a great trip! We were looking hard for ling but only ones we saw were at the cleaning table at the marina.

I hope that we can make a trip together some time soon.

Try pulling close close in. Just out of your wheel wash. Drag some jigs on top further out.

Usually pull a couple islanders rigged with ballyhoo deep, and a couple halco shakey baits inside the islanders and usually 1 diver short. Give that a try and see what they want usually ran wire on everything if the little wahoos were around.

Also always keep a live bait pitching rig ready when you're trolling grass

pretty sure we bumped around you guys Thursday and Friday......we were in the teal colored Contender that parks right at the corner of the dock at Bridgeside.

Your report almost mirrors our day as well........Friday was just awesome for us.......31 mangroves, 14 endangered red snapper and three lemon.

I think you guys pulled up by us at the rig Thursday....

Great report man!
