Default Places where you wouldn't eat the fish you catch.

I was wondering if there are any places that you guys either fish or see people fishing, but you wouldn't eat the fish caught there. I grew up in lake Charles right on contraband bayou not far from the lake. My family worked in the plants and we never ate fish out of the bayou or lakes south of the saltwater barrier. I can only think of a few times we would even go swimming in prien or lake Charles. My grandfather and father fished fresh water most of the time in the marsh or at their camp at Toledo and later Bund*cks. Even now driving over the 210 bridge, I see the boats fishing near the ship channel, the plants, and bayou d'inde and think that I would not even fish over there but definitely not eat any. I know the pollution that happened back in the day has been controlled to a certain degree . In the past few years, we have started fishing in Big lake and the refuges and I don't have an issue eating those fish. I know they migrate around and everything, but I can't get past the ingrained memories of my grandfather always saying not to eat the fish out of the lake. Anyway,, just curious...

I fish 100% for fun... not for food.... I do love to eat fish tho. but some of my buddies ive met through work don't care to fish or don't get to go very often and their families appreciate the free fish.

Buying fish is no better you see the conditions they grow fish in Vietnam,
They still use stink pots to feed and fertlize their fields this flows to their rivers. Would rather take my chances
With fish I catch.

well if you work in the industry around lake charles, you understand how much of a lie it all is about being safe now. ive seen with my own eyes many things that enter the water and have heard even more. you can cover almost anything up.

I eat fish from all over the estuary I haven't obtained mercury poisoning nor contracted cancer yet, now i do work in contraband and I'd be hesitant to eat a fish out of here. Mostly due to the amount of trash that flows through the area after a good rain.

You would have to eat fish all day everyday for it to really affect your health. I would think you are exposed to more poisons fueling you truck.
