Gretna Fest

I grew up in Gretna, last year was my first time attending this festival. Now I have been to durn near every festival in South Louisiana, from Jazz Fest in the late 70's to Jazz Fest now, French Quarter Fest, Lagnaippe on the Bayou - Chauvin, Sauce Picante - Raceland, Crawfish - Breaux Bridge, Andouille - LaPlace, Little Italy - Racine, Tarpon Rodeo - Empire, Wooden Boat Fest, Crab Fest, something down in Abbeville with a huge omlet in the middle of the street, and many others I simply do not remember.

But this Gretna Fest 3 day pass for $40.00 is a great weekend event. A buddy lets me stay at his house, about 6 blocks from the gate. So I bring my bicycle, and enjoy the Historic Gretna District for three days.

Lagniappe on the Bayou - Chauvin,

That was a classic! Went many times growing up, until Bishop Boudreaux came to town and ruined the church and school fairs forever with his no booze and cherry bells rules!

you mean Michael Jarrell, Bishop Boudreaux was the first Bishop of Houma/Thibodaux.....When he decided to retire and this fella took his place it all went down hill.

I always wondered what happened to Lagniappe, that place has a camp ground set up for the event.People would come from all over the US to attend. I am sure it was a huge money maker for the parish.

I took a boy from Ohio there, bought him a seafood plater with some alligator on it. He ate the while platter, then asked what he was eating by picking up the gator. He said it was the best the chicken ever. I told him it was gator, but bout spit it out. Then he sucked it up and realized, it was just in his Yankee mind.
