FlagUS Sac-a-lait Are Biting!

Sac-a-lait Fishing

Its that time of year again when the 'speckled perch' start to school up throughout southeast Louisiana. White perch,crappie,sac-a-lait or whatever you call them are some of the best tasting fish you will find. My lifetime friend Pat Olivier and I have been scouting the sacs for a few weeks without much success....until yesterday. Yesterday was one of those days when nothing could go wrong as the sacs were eating up big time. We fished the west Houma marsh out of Bobs Bayou Black Marina in Gibson. Although the wind was relentless with 20-25 mph gusts we had no problem catching 88 nice slabs along with a few bass and perch. Working the edges of grassbeds with blue/white tube jigs almost 2 ft under a cork did the trick. The sacs were turned on and feeding aggressively as sometimes we had a fish on our line every cast. Its just getting started and a bit early this year due to the abnormal warm weather. I will enjoy the next 6-8 weeks as we look forward to this time of the year when those speckled perch show up in big numbers. What a great alternative when the speckled trout fishing gets slow! Good luck fishing.
