Default Trout Bite Kicks Off in Dularge

This morning looked like a weather cancellation so my customers were on standby at their camp. We slept in til about 8:00 am, checked the radar, and set all systems on go. The wind was cranking hard out of the north making much of lower Dularge seemingly unfishable. We armed ourselves with bait crabs in case we had to get down and dirty with some bull reds, but the plan was speckled trout as the priority target. My customers today came from all walks of life. I had men from Scotland, China, and Jamaica all on one boat. I really wanted to show them a great time on the water as they have never experienced south Louisiana as we know it. Our first drift over a protected reef actually yielded a few trout. The hunt began. Over and over we were striking out. Around 11:00 we decided to make the run south as the sky opened up and the wind deadened. Capt. Marty and Capt. Travis reported over the VHF that they were on some good fish. We quickly got into position at a nearby structure and had it all to ourselves. Then came the slime. The bite got hot n heavy and then dead. This oddly happened over and over all afternoon so we never changed locations. When the smoke cleared we had 61 trout laying in the big Kysek cooler. All damage done tight lining Reflexion Pearl Melon Lil Bammers and a few came in under a cork. Great times today and these gentlemen won't forget their trip.

It looks like the start of a great year of fishing as the trout are out in full force much earlier than they were last year. Get it while it's hot!
