Default Burns 7/8/2016

Went out for some perch-jerking but caught a bass on a crappie jig. Started throwing a plastic worm and caught this Burns Bruiser.
5.7 lbs. I released this one but kept four others and a crappie.

Default Burns 7/8/2016

It has received 6.1 inches of rain since June 18.
I still did not try to go out into Cocaine Lake, though. I just fished the 45 canal.
The amount of water hyacinth choking the canals is significant, though not as bad as last year.
I did get passed in the canal by a guy with a 90 hp Mercury outboard... and it was not the guy that checks permits out there.

Any of ya notice that it looks like they opened the locks on mermantau and letting saltwater in ? Noticed one area in Cocaine lake was real muddy, a canal was re dug with a pontoon excavator running east and west. Dipped my hand in the water and tasted it, yep, it was salty..
makes sense that some of the salt intolerant species are already turning brown.

Would be curious to know the reason behind this

Catfish Locks have been closed for some time due to the low level of the Mermentau. Only being opened for routine boat traffic from 6 to 6.

Update on Catfish Locks. Apparently, they are wide open now. No rain to speak of this past week but I have been told they are now wide open, all 3 gates.

That's gonna be a lot of saltwater moving into grand lake and beyond!! I wonder why they did that. The point of the locks was to keep saltwater out of those areas.

Another friend was there Sat pm and he said they are still wide open. Doesn't make a lot of sense with big SSW winds, low river level and folks starting to pump water on their fields for 2nd crop rice. But what do I know?
