Default outboard jet drive?

just curious to see if anyone has ever used an outboard jet drive to run in shallow areas. When I went on vacation to Alaska, there were numerous boat that used jet drives because of all the rocks in the rivers. Seems like it might work in shallow area, maybe similar using a JP and a tunnel? Just wondering

I tried one years ago. It was slow and didn't work well in grass. Maybe they have improved since then as it was about 15 years ago.

Thanks Dogface, I kinda figured someone had tried it before. From what I saw online, the prop size and the spacing from the walls of the jet drive are critical and easily clogged up with grass, etc.

And as Hydro says, the HP rating is about 20-30% less with a jet drive. Was just curious.

Could be wrong, but I heard they are next best thing to an airboat in the super shallow sandy stuff. We just don't have much of that terrain.

I hear they burn 30% or so more gas than equivalent prop drive.
