Default Speck hunting is pretty cool guys

Had some buddies take me on my first true speck hunt friday. Mad respect for the guys who really chase these things. I see why you do it now.. got some good footage I'll share eventually also.

Cool pics. I've killed them while duck hunting in NE LA but living in Lafayette area now I'm itching to get after them specifically. Seems you have to have access to a lot of farmland to hunt them.

Don't need a lot of farmland, just need the right farmland.

Large sums of money will eventually point you to the right field seems like.. Hunted my blind Sunday (Me being only one with a speck call) and was calling at a pair when another group of 12 joined in with the 2 and locked up. I immediately panicked lol. Made about 5 passes and I think they would have landed in the decoys, but made 1 more series of clucks and they banked right over the blind, called the shot early (real rookie maneuver) and got 3 out of it. First group I've ever worked alone. This kid was JACKED after that lol. For 2 days at that same spot I never would even try to mess with a group of more than 4 or so, and especially not ones as high as they were.

Thanks Mr. Jeff. I had no part in tricking these other than handing out decoys, and moral support lol. You, Robbie, and I will all have to get together soon and harass a few.

Chance, youll learn that sometimes those shots on top are your best friend, everyone likes shooting them in the decoys, but knocking 3 out of a group aint bad. id rather shoot them on top anyways, nice birds

the best shot is right on top. always position decoys upwind to allow and chance for birds to pass right overhead when they commit to decoys.

I love taking the first shot almost straight up, make em fall in the blind.
Same for wary ducks, (AKA Second Split Greys) if they circle directly over the blind @ 40 yards I'm pulling the trigger.

3rd split spoons are my favorite in the crawfish ponds.
