Hey, when you are idling out, let about 40 yds of line out and reel it back in. Will help seed your line and make casting the new line alot easier.

x2 this trick works great and if your line gets twisted, do the same thing. The twists will come right out.

Good catch!! Definitely try letting the line out and reeling in as you idle. Works!!!

All reels back to Berkley Trilene now and I will do this to all idling out of launch Sunday or Monday on next days off to go. Calm winds this week killing me at work lol

you do this with your bait still tied on or just slack line? |

I do it with a sliding cork, just want something to add a little tension to the line while you reel in

Most fish have come using small popping cork. Seem to catch better fish. But u could have thrown a trash can and caught them on my last two trips. Was starting to think all were 11"-13" before that. Northeast biglake this time too

Getting the twists out of your line works best with nothing tied on the end of the line. To get tension on the line when reeling back in, just pinch the line between two fingers on the non-cranking hand.

The reason for having to do this is: there is not enough tension on your line whenever re-spooling. Therefore you need to have some tension. I usually just use 1/4 jighead with a grub. Also this helps evenly spool your line so it is all not to one side more than the other.

Definitely doing it. I usually take it out iun the yard and throw it as far as possible with big lead head and walk back to it while reeling with good tension to where rod is bent. To be fair I did not do this with the Stren but no matter is Berkeley Trilene from now on and doing this leaving the launch. Never fails when u have problems it's usually on the fish and this time was really on the fish surrounded by 3 guide boats. So taking a little extra time is gonna be worth it I know. It just makes sense!!

Been using trilene big game for nearly 20 years. Haven't had a reason to try another brand. Cheapest and best line in my opinion

If you can safely run your boat at a fast idle, you don't need anything on your line. The drag on the bare line will bend your rod like a 16" red. The last 10 or 15 yards will need a little finger pinch for pressure but that's all. Having a lure on your line will get the line wound on tight, but you won't get the twist out of your line. Try it without a lure, but be careful. If you let all of your line out at a really fast idle it will try to take the rod out of your hands. I never would have believed it could create so much drag on the bare line till I tried it myself.
As for Stren, there's a reason why it's known for abrasion resistance. It's like piano wire compared to Trilene Dig Game. Great on offshore reels you don't have to cast, but I hate it on a baitcaster. |

when spooling new line run line from spool through phone book and then reel. adds enough tension to seat line.
