Default "Do not call" list

I received an e-mail today stating that, Friday, all cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies. In order to add your number to the "National do not call" registry, you must call 888 382-1222 from the phone who's number you're registering. Without registering, you are liable for charges due to telemarketers.

Anything to this?

I've gotten one that says I've won either 10,000.00 or a european dream vacation...Call us back now at this number to claim your prize...The number was traced back to Jamaica and would have charged me $20.00 a minute to call and they can get your info if the call is returned...Nothing is safe anymore...

My senile neighbor has warned me about this no less than 5 times. I stopped telling him it was a hoax after the 2nd time. Now I just thank him profusely and tell him I gotta go call the number right now and get on that list. I kid you not. Poor guy thinks he's helping me out. Who am I to disavow him of that illusion?

Yea.... who do you think you are? You aught to be ashamed of yourself for even questioning his knowledge the first 2 times...lol

Yeah, he got all indignant when I told him it was a hoax. Why fight the tide? Just roll with it.

The email may be a hoax, but my great aunt has gotten calls on her cell about her credit card expiring and factory auto warranty expiring. She is 84 years old and has never had a credit card and her car is a 1971 model. So it is a good idea to put your number on the do not call list.

OK. I called the number and it all sounds legit. I talked to someone this morning who registered 2 months ago and hasn't gotten any calls related to it. It takes about 20 seconds.

I called to last year or something.

The way i look at it is, Thats a government operated web site. I figured it couldnt be a scam, other than the government getting more information from you, or them getting your cell phone numbers for security, census, or wharever reason.

I have never received a telemarketer call yet..

Watch it Salty - as soon as you put your number in there, that verifies a good number. Then your number is entered into a database of "known good" numbers. Then you will be HAMMERED with cell phone soliciting!
Hopefully this will not happen to you...

Here is the website to list all numbers you have so as not to receive any more unwanted calls from solicitors.

If you call the # you don't have to give your e-mail addy. I did it both ways. When I used the link it said I was already registered. Must be legit.
