Great idea for DU to raise money. Horrible idea for the puppy going home with an owner that isn't prepared for a pup and bought it on the spur of the moment while under the influence. I know 3 people that purchased auction pups. 2 were run over within weeks. The third died of heartworms at 5 years old.

I'm trying to get one of sponsors to donate a crate, bumpers, leash, collar, etc..... So we can have whoever buys it as prepared as possible. If only I could get Raymond to donate a month of training It wound be a turn key dog package.

+1

Buying a puppy isn't something that should be done spur of the moment with persuasion from an auctioneer talking it up like its piratically trained b/c of its supposed pedigree.

Y'all act like most of these guys have never owned a dog before and can't make a logical decision whether they have the time for it or not.

I disagree wit puppies being auctioned at banquets. Most of the time the dog ends up losing as has been said already. Sorry, don't take it personal, just stating my opinion.

Never been to a DU banquet but I've bought a lot of useless, overpriced **** at banquets but nothin I had to feed for the next 13 years. I did try and get one of the girls in the black dresses to let me pay her child support for the next 18 years but I digress.

Marsh, we have talked before but I agree with the prior post on raffle dogs. Our CCA chapter has eliminated the practice since I have joined the board. I have trained an auction puppy and she turned out good but not before months of turmoil with the co-owners. Most wake up the next morning like I have after a great night at a tittie bar wondering exactly what happened.
I will donate two months of training if the chapter will secure a puppy from Robert Authement in Lake Arthur ONLY. Please don't take this request lightly, the dog must be bought from Robert. You will have the purchase price invested and nothing else. Call me for suggestions on the best way to make this work. I still don't like it but with the proper safe guards it can work.
Good Luck

PS
I really want to help those who want help and do it because I want to.

Raymond, that would give someone a heck of a puppy. Very nice offer!

And DU will profit from it. Doesn't really matter what the starting price is, it will get purchased!

That's why I asked, ive seen a bunch back when I was on the DU committee back in the day. Just my observation, but I also worked with a trainer and we received some of these dogs that were bought from a banquent. honestly, most of these purchases were made drunk or because of a cute "duckling"selling tickets, or a guys wife thought the puppy was too cute to pass up. hell all lab pups are too cute to pass up, point is I've never been a in favor of auctioning puppys. Just my thoughts.

By the way unless the bidding goes crazy high out of my budget. I'll be one of them bidding on it. I've been thinking about getting a male for a few months now.
