Default Planning big lake trip

Hey guys, from sulphur but in TX now.

Planning on bringing the boat down to fish soon. It's been years since I had a fishing boat and could fish big lake.

Can anybody help me with what to look for in the forecast to increase my odds? North wind?

And any advice on where to put in? Would either be staying in sulphur or Cameron.

I'd either put in at spicers or the west cove launch. Take that back. I'd stop at spicers and pick up some live shrimp then drive down to west cove launch. I personally have not been on the lake this month but I know the north end is still fresh and would fish the south end of the estuary depending on winds. Northwinds are great for surf fishing along the coast and fishing the north end of biglake. Will likely be southeast winds for awhile now and would concentrate on the south end right now. I've got to get me a trailer soon so I can get back out on the water. It's killing me lol. Goodluck and let us know how u do

Thanks for the input! When I make it down if you want to tag along you're more than welcome! Haven't had a boat in big lake in years.

Pretty much what he said was correct. I doubt we get any more north winds this year.....but is has been an interesting weather year. The birds have been working in west Cove pretty steadily lately so as long as there's not too much east or west in the wind you should be able to get into some fish fairly easily if the tide is moving

Thanks for the input. I can't remember the name of the launch, we always used to put in the ship channel and run down into the lake and just chase birds as well.

My boats a 17.5' Cajun special mod v with a 70. Shallow and pretty quick.

Unless you just feel like running the channel all the way down, I would launch at either Hog Island or West Cove depending on winds. North winds launch at Hog Island and everything else go to West Cove.

Yeah, don't plan on running channel. That's why I asked. We used to do that because the launch was right by the house.
