got a ex pat buddy in Thailand that said they have folks that just vanish every year in the river by where he lives . cat fish at 500 - 600 lbs would not have any trouble eating your average Thai person.

Watch river monsters with Jeremy wade some time. He has had several shows on giant man-eating catfish, including the mekong. Quite frankly, the scariest ones I've seen on that show are the goonch and the piraiba. They even look like monsters.
