Default offshore 10/16-10/17

Buddy called me up last week and asked if i wanted to go offshore for an overnight tuna trip,

I jumped on the offer and missed my 2nd lsu home game in 5 years, but at least we had sat. radio to hear the game.

Well we left cocodrie at around 9 am saturday, and went south, stopped at a rig and picked up our 12 snapper, and tried to catch some hardtail but they were all in the 10-14 inch range, so we picked up and moved out to another rig, and the tuna crack size (4-8 inch) were there thick. picked up some on sabikis, and moved on to another rig, we dropped down some bigger hardtails with a 2 pound ball, and the amberjack fight was on,

picked up two Ajs and headed for bluewater.

Got to the rig enni (sp) about 100 miles out and put out some shaky baits to troll, within 5 minutes the reel was screaming.

1st yellowfin in the box,

7 minutes later my reel started singing and another 70-80 pound YF was on board,

10 mins later, singing again, but this time it was different, we thought we had a 150-200 pound tuna on the line,

after an hour and 20 min fight, up in the boat comes a foul hooked 70-80 pound YF.

We decided to make a move after picking up some blackfin, but never found the YF again.
trolled around ensco 8520 and genesis but never hooked up

spent the night around the rig "frontrunner" and the water was glass,

we moved 200 yards all night.

woke up and put more blackfin in the boat and headed in. fished a few rigs, hooked up on some big sharks and cuda,

got to a rig closer to the rip and picked up some snapper, chicken dolphin, and blackfin.

moved in to some tankers and shrimp boats, and again got blackfin and chicken dolphin

and 29 pounds of ruby red shrimp for a 12 pack of natty from some mexican shrimpers. haha

got back to the dock around 4 with Three YF, 25 blackfin, 2 AJs, 12 snapper, and 2 chicken dolphin.

Great trip, cant wait to get out there again.

sorry for the long write up

more pics to come

Nice Pics. Cool to see Frontrunner. I did the install on her. Was the eni platform Morpeth or Allegheny? I did the install on both of those also when they belonged to British Borneo.

Great catch Austin, I love those chickens. Their some good lookin and eatin fish. Wish I could get out there but work has me tied down right now. I may take a couple of days off between the 25th and 30th if the seas stay calm. Congrates again.

I think a sheet of plywood is drier than that.
