Default Any Grand Isle reports?

Just got here and this is the most rushed trip I have ever taken. The wind is kicking out of the south right now and the tide is out. Any body heard any reports?

If the surf is too rough, head north and fish some of the islands and small bays with good water. There's been fish and birds everywhere.

At GI now. Island is not crowded. Snaps trip tomorrow. Trout are plentiful working birds. They are spitting out shrimp when caught. Our best were on topwaters and soft plastic though. Numbers on DOA under a loud cork. Trawlers have the water beat up a bit on the beach and in back - but still fishable. Wind expected to drop to 10ish for Sat. Watch for troopers on the way down they have been patrolling pretty hard. Good luck.

Well, we started at 6 am and only caught a hand full of specs and they were all under 12". We did get on some white trout though. We only kept the ones worth cleaning so we kept about 14. All fish were caught around bird island and on that oyster reef out in the middle of the bay. It was way to ruff on the south end for my lil boat. Didn't take any pics. It was nothing worth bragging on.

Sorry - just got back from snapper fishing. Easy 5 man multiple limits on jigging spoons in 1.5 hrs, ~40 miles out.
Trout were east of Barataria pass under birds - a few just behind GI under birds. Best fish were on reefs - no birds.

Me and some friends were down there saturday; elmers was rough, no quality fish despite "decent" clarity and bait presence. We managed a couple of dinks and a founder; left and went behind the island in the bay; caught a lot of dinks; 3 more flounder. Tried to find reds at about 11am. 1 red; 17" sucked. Biggest trout was 16". We found the trout by finding feeding dolphins.

I don't feel so bad now. Seems like everybody had trouble. We saw alot of birds but it was like there was maybe 10 birds in each group and they were not very consistant. By the time you got set up for a drift they were gone.

Plan on going this Friday morning - Sunday. Tides will be pretty slack this weekend so I will hope for the best. My buddies went this past weekend and limited on Snapper and caughts lots of Mangroves both days. Sunday they trout fished in Baratatia for about an hour and caught 30 trout on a reef we always fished. Hope to be able to get back offshore this weekend to chase some snapper.

I know my 18' made it maybe a couple hundred yards before I turned around Friday. I saw other people do the same thing. A friend of mines father in law has some kind of 54' fishing boat and it is parked somewhere in new Orleans but he wants to bring it back to his camp in grand isle and they are going to do an over night fishing trip for tuna and they invited me with no cost. Of course my wife is raising nine kinds of hell about me staying in the gulf over night. Might be looking for a roomate soon!

We had a 5 man limit of these on Sat (diamond jigs and knife jigs).... rough heading out ~2 hr run - 1.5 hrs fishing to get the limit and headed back to the Fourchon rigs catch a few mangroves.
