Default straps?

What kind of straps do guys use to secure your kayak? I hear ratchet straps are a no no cause you can over tighten them easily. Everybody is apparently using cam buckle straps without the hooks.

Yakima straps are the real deal. They are light, padded and without all that clunky ratcheting mess.
