Default Goose Spread

What's goin on guys? I hunt south of Crowley on family land. Love to hunt mainly specks, but I am mad at the snows too. I have never had luck with windsock/rag spreads, no matter the size or ratio. Even on days with perfect wind, location ect.

What are you guys opinions on running a small realistic spread of fullbodies?

Thanks.

That was with a dozen snow decoys and half a dozen spec decoys just before the last cold front we had. I will say we had the picture perfect weather conditions with a good size body sittin a couple fields south, no electronic caller and no rags I called with my mouth and a spec call.

The best time to kill snows is a nasty morning(windy, cloudy, misty rain) or foggy morning and being between 2 bodies helps a lot. If the conditions are right, you won't need many decoys. Our best snow hunts have been over about 18 speck full bodies and 3 to 12 snow/blue full bodies.

I've never blown one but being that I can get them to cooperate just by yelling I imagine any of the calls would work

This. I've hunted 2 different morning by myself with an electronic caller when it was foggy as hell. I just laid the rags on the ground. I'd leave the caller off til I heard some coming, every time they would come funneling down, I was killing 2 or 3 every time. Good times.

Well we set our 18 speck fullbodies today. May go pick up some snow goose full bodies.

Thanks.

Do y'all usually just have to get out and touch them? Or do they work better with decoys?

I can probably just count on both hands how many times I've worked snows into dekes.

10 Snows/hunt is spectacular to me! They are hard to decoy period. Like the others said, downwind of a huge body, in between bodies, foggy days, hard wind, rainy.....If none of these conditions are present it is hard to kill snows without 1200 dekes and an e-caller.

The best hunt I have ever been on was a conservation hunt in South Dakota where we killed about 50 in one day. We were in layout blinds with 1200 full bodies, 3 or 4 12 volt spinning snow machines, kites and 2 e-callers. Speakers right in front of the layouts was how they did it.

if you aren't in the right place, no amount of decoys will do much good. I doubt anyone averages 10 snows a hunt. I'm speaking from a lot of experience.

I'd be happy with my limit of specks every other hunt and a snow or two. Could have done just that yesterday.

But shot terrible. Cliche, I know, but it's true.

We hunt them with very few decoys about 8-10 full body snow geese and 6 speck decoys. We mouth call them. They are smart birds got to hide your self very well and be still.

How do most of you guys hide? Are you in layouts or in white suits? Have a friend with a wheat field and been thinking about speck hunting on it, but the field is a wide open green field

Use a layout blind and avery sales killer weed that is called winter wheat. I know someone who does this in a rye grass field and has great success.
