I almost always use the SW11. The speckled trout color has been good the past couple weeks.

How do you know when to throw a top water bait and actually catch fish? I have yet to have a hit on topwater

The best conditions are when the winds are fairly light and not much wave action. But......I have caught on Top Water baits in 1.5 foot waves.

If there are schools of bait fish swimming......try a Top water bait. I usually use a bait that has a "rattle" inside. Or if I see [or hear] fish striking on the surface.....throw a TW bait.

When the fish strikes your TW bait......reel in a little line and wait until you feel the fish and then lift the rod tip up high and reel. If you "set the hook" like when bass fishing, you will not get many hook-ups. Often the first strike is just the fish "slapping" at the bait and then it will bite the bait a couple seconds later.

"Speckled trout" color has been producing. I also carry a rod with a pink skitter.
