Marsh island question

Was talking to a wildelife guy today who said they run through oyster lake and to the gulf in that 32 whaler. Am i the only one who gets stuck?

I've done it many times only problem ever had was right after storms because canal silted up. If you stay on step you should have no problem.

I went through one day on a high tide and idled for a ways just after the hard right turn. I kicked up mud for almost a mile before it got deep. so I would say you are not the only one that gets stuck. on plane would be a definite any time other than high tide.

I was talking to some guides a while back and they were talking about running through there. they said the main danger is alligators. He said he hit 4 going through one day. He also mentioned a buddy who damaged a lower unit.

That would also explain why those DWF boats are always at the repair shops around Lafayette getting fixed...

IMO its a risky run... Anyone else have experience with this route?

I have ran the route several times through oyster bayou to the gulf. If you stay on step there is no problems. Never hit any gators but seen them everytime. I don't like how narrow and sharp turns are in oyster bayou. If another boat comes from the other direction it is very hair raising. That being said I am sure I will run it again. It is very scenic area,and a easy way to fish the mound area and shell keys. Be careful out there,lots of shallow reefs.

if you know where to pass, it is easy. there are just a few spots to be carefull, especially in the blind corners where u might meet up with someone who doesn't know the bayou. lol

i've pulled several boats out of the marsh over there, or off of mudflats. just goes with the territory. we drive a 25 and 27 boat thru there with no problems.

Just stay in the middle and on plane.

Or just go through bayou blanc which is further east.
