Trout advice please

Headed to Heberts Landing in a couple of weeks. Bringing a north AR White River trout guide boat. It's a 20'x42" fiberglass with 15 Mercuploadfromtaptalk1406118141771.jpg and a Riptide on the bow. Figure I can find reds but trout might be a different story. Due to boat design figure I'll need protected water. Looking for suggestions from the experts. I'm a tops and tails and spoons kind of guy.

depending on the wind you may be able to get on a good trout bite. just watch for shrimp popping

find out the wind direction then choose where to launch. usually itll be calm enough for you in the morning to hit some trout with a small boat.

Thanks so far, another question. I've read about the difficulty of accessing the marsh because of the weirs, the ones on the southeast part of Big Lake. Launching from Heberts is there any other accessible marsh I can get into with my boat, it will run in 12". Thanks.

Unless the weather is very calm, you are considering launching at the worst possible launch on BL for that boat if the weather kicks up any.

Drive the 10 miles or so, north up the highway through Grand Lake, and across the drawbridge, and turn left to Calcasieu Point Marina. Launching there, it's protected water in 3 directions. Fish the marshes south of the landing for about 2 miles before you again encounter BL on its northern most end where you can decide if you can get out into the open water from there. Same water, far more safe if there are waves.

depending on the weather for the next week or two there could be some options that will open up for you, if the stars align you could easily have a good day if planned right, your boat isn't much different than the 14ft aluminum flat bottoms that frequently run the lake.

Thanks all, we will make the best of it and have fun. Scoping out the area in anticipation of spending 3 Mos during winter down there. No AR winters have been brutal lately. If any y'all have a hankering for some freshwater trout fishing come on up, I fish the White and North Fork rivers.
