Default Good Surf Fishing Water

I live in Beaumont, TX and surf fish McFaddins, High Island , Rollover Pass and Crystal Beach. Generally speaking the water is always sandy and fishing is "iffy". How far East would I need to go to find generally better water - water where I could reasonably catch pompano for instance. Grand Isle, Gulfport, Orange Beach, Destin, Dauphin where is the water green or blue more often than not?
I will appreciate any advice.

Gulf Shores is the start of that type water. They catch a bunch of pomps in that area.

Had one jump in the boat and hit me in the leg last year. August or September in Timbalier Bay.
