Default Crabbing questions

My uncle is visiting this week from Florida. He specifically wants to go crabbing a few times. He doesn't want to buy a license, not interested in fishing. The only decent spot I know for crabs is Rockafeller. However, you need a license to be in Rockafeller. Can we just pull over and crab on the side of 82 and toss out lines? Also we've been getting a lot of rain lately, will this affect salinity enough to push crabs around. Are there any boat launches, public areas worth a try between cypremort point and the mermentau? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

it is my understanding you need a fishing license to crab no matter where you do it.

but I think all you need is a hook and line "trotline" license for $2.50 as long as you don't have any fishing poles with you

you can get a 1 day fishing license. Just a phone call and a credit card. You should treat your uncle to some legal fishing.

License not required to crab on Sabine National Wildlife Refuge at designated recreational sites down Hwy.27 south of Hackberry. Little further drive than Mermentau but may be worth considering.

I don't think he needs one. I could be wrong though.

Who does he think he is? Belton Richard? I'm not sure if I should be impressed or offended by the level of ego and balls behind that statement. Even Belton Richard wouldn't try to go crabbing without a licence, he's too classy.

If a $5 license to enjoy a day of crabbing in Rockerfeller is too much for your uncle, why don't you buy the license for him and be done with it?

If you only use hand lines no license is needed.

"Any person using crab nets or crab lines for the purpose of taking crabs for recreational purposes shall not be required to purchase or possess a basic recreational fishing license or be required to purchase a gear license. However, persons using crab nets or crab lines on LDWF WMAs or refuges must possess a basic and saltwater recreational fishing license or a Wild Louisiana Stamp."
