Default 12-4-17 pre front Calcasieu River Crappie

Was at the first hole before sun up. As soon as sunrise came it was on! Pulled in big Crappie as fast as I coUld get in water for solid 45 minutes. After a couple wrapped me up in tree top and disturbing it by pullin and poppin line the slowed some for a bit then it was on again! Smaller fish now but still keepin some. Ended up boxing 20 out of that hole before moving. Next 4-5 stops only boxed 4-5 more. Around 1130 I'm thinking it's over but still have one more stop on way back I caught some big ones last time. Boxed a couple more there but nothing else after an hour or so. About 25 yards down river is another tree top I been saying I should try but really didn't think it was in deep enough water to be any good. Boy was I wrong. For 2 hours I caught fish after fish. Ran out of shiners no problem they hittin jigs too. Only keeping the 10" or better so has quite a few throw backs. This is as thick as I ever seen white perch on the Calcasieu! Normally u move a foot in either direction once u find them and won't get a bite. This brush pile is as long as my truck and where ever I dropped a line a caught fish. 6-25 feet of water with most coming out of 20 feet depths 10 - 12 feet down. Caught 60-65 and boxed 41. I thought I was closer to my limit of 50 but not quite. Smokin day though. Check out the one Crappie with no butt. It's lucky when it healed it didn't cover its hole to poop, lol. Ever wonder why Crappie stop biting as soon as a garfish is around this is why. I'm sure that's wat happened to this guy. Bit best on shiners dead or alive then white plastic jig. But I ran out of white and went to yellow and red and yellow. Left the fish biting. 2017 has likely been one of my best Crappie years! And didn't start til Sept 15th. May be over after this front and cold weather but as long as rains hold off and don't muddy river up I'm thinking u could catch them til January for sure.

Dude! You're slaying them. Love the crappie action! My second favorite fish!

Next time I come down can I just hire you as a guide!?! Haha

Funny u say that. Been some talk of it. No one does it on Calcasieu. Friend of mine wants to put some cabins and bait shop @ old town bay and possibly some guided Crappie trips. Lot easier to go catch them by urself! Either way it's my favorite fish to fish for especially on a tight budget right now. Love chasing specks but grew up catching crappie

Fan-freakin-tastic. I wish my boat wasn?t stripped down to bare aluminum right now. I had to have some welding done on the back deck so I scraped carpet glue all day Sat and Sun.
Needless to say, I?m jealous.
Thanks for the report.

Well hey brother next time I'm down I'd definitely throw you some $, drinks, or gas, or all 3 for some lessons! Would have never found a fish last trip without your help!

There are some crappie guides around me in TX that do really well. Although alot of them are going out and fishing with green lights at night.

My D Line coach from college is retired now and guides people for cats and stripers in TX and has a lot of fun.

Send it back and get hydroturf. I absolutely love mine. 2 years old now and in excellent condition. Easy on the feet, always cool, hooks don't hang on it, very quiet and you can pressure wash it with no issues. The best money I ever put in my boat.

Yep. I'd exchange. If you don't want to drop the coin for hydroturf seadek and a few others are a little less. Amazing. I'll never own carpet again.

Thanks for the good suggestions on flooring. I?m doing carpet this time but I?ll use Hydroturf next time. Looks like a better investment.
