Default Coyote hunting

I'm thinking of getting started in coyote hunting.
I have a couple questions. How hard is it to get permission to hunt?
Where are the best places in SWLA?
What are good callers that won't break the bank?
What type of weapon is generally best?
Is the hunting better or worse with the weirs open?

Hahaha! Love the last question!
I don't know the answers to your questions but I do know they are smart. Know a guy in Oberlin that would let you I bet.

I would go with a semi-auto weapon----AR-15 or sorts. Bolt action is good for long range, but can only get one shot off every 4-8 seconds.

Oswald could shoot a bolt action a lot faster than on shot every 8 seconds.

Jordan been on the fence where to use an AR platform or go to a bolt gun.

Part of the reason for the last question. This pic I took in the ship channel in Sep 2013

Weirs open for sure. Wind in your face just like deer hunting. Firefox pro I believe it is called is a good electronic call. You don't wanna go crazy with the calling. I went with a coworker a few times who does it pretty regularly. Can't help you on where to go but you wanna set up facing where you think they'll be coming from to minimize movement. They are keen. We were using baby jack rabbit or rabbit in distress one time and had a doe come out pissed as hell bucking and everything. It was something to see. I think he uses just three of the calls on it. I think you'd be better off with an electronic one
