Just wanted to share a little hunting experience I had on turkey morning. I've been hunting ducks all my life, and I'm up there in age. I knocked down 2 pintail out of a group. One had a broken wing, the other looked to have terminal injuries as I watched it go down in some lillies. As I was fast tracking to the one with a broken wing in my pirogue, I noticed something out the side of my eye. It was a fully mature bald eagle. Well to say the least, the race was on. He seemed to want my pintail as bad as I did. I was still a little too far to finish off the pintail, but he had me beat. He kept making attempts to pick up my duck as eveytime he tried the duck would dive. I tried everything to scare him off; including shooting in the air to scare him off, even banging on my pirogue and yelling and waving my arms. He was just as determined as I was. With all the rucus I did the duck said the hell with both of ya'll. He dove and I never saw it again. Eagle-0, me-0. Sum *****.

Awesome story! I've never had an experience like that but I've seen em pretty close up and they are truly a magnificent bird.

Did have a similar experience with a chicken hawk once though.

I was fishing in Toledo Bend once, I got in a little cove with a bunch of Poul do. and a giant bald eagle was swooping down on them, they would all swim away but the eagle never grabbed one, even though he was fully capable of getting one. That eagle put on a show for about 10 minutes. this was in march.

I watched a bald eagle chase a teal around for about 10 minutes once. That was cool. Don't know if he ever caught it. Also this year for teal season we set up a mojo and had a red tailed hawk come and swoop down at it and hover over it for ten or fifteen minutes.

I was guiding one morning using the herter cork decoys. It was fairly slow morning so we were kind of relaxed not watching to close when we heard a splash in the decoys. A red tail hawk had grabbed a mallard decoy and could get up with the decoy but not decoy and weight. he would fall back in the water and splash around. This went on for several try's before he finally got his talons out and flew off.
