quality decoys and rigging
Is high quality worth the high price? how are you rigging? I really was pleased with the rig'em right's in Venice this year. You could toss six teal in a hole VERY easy...... then three to six big ducks on the cupped wind side within minutes. Get some pics up of how you rig? Is it just me, or is everyone else STILL stuck with duck fever? Man, not sure if it's the new puppy the son coming into his own hunting personality or just the birds themselves, but I am still ducky |

We started hunting in the marsh this year and I also switched to texas rigged decoys. I was really impressed at how quickly you could put out and pick up decoys using this method. I bought 400lb mono from this website along with the crimps and a crimper. http://www.snlcorp.com/SNL/Other/DuckDecoyKit.aspx I rigged my decoys similiar to this except that i used a snap swiwel to connect to the decoy instead of passing the monofiliment through the hole in the decoy. I figued the decoys would slid up and down easier and have more movement on the water with the swivel. photo.jpg On my decoys there were holes in the front and the back of the keel to attach lines too. I like to put half of the decoys each way. This keeps every decoy from pointing in the exact same direction (always into the wind) and looks alot more natural. I also believe that you should use species of decoys that you would see where you hunt. Throwing out all mallard decoys when all you kill is greys and teal doesn't make since. I don't know how much this really matters in the long run, but from what I have seen with teal atleast is that when come in to land 95% of the time it is going to be with the teal decoys. |

Rig em rights is where it's at except the price. I make my own for 1/4 the price. .080 weedeater string, #2 sleeves, and some good snap swivels. I use #2. And they work the exact same and I rigged 10doz deeks for about 100$. It woulda cost $400+ for rigem rights

G&H, not greenhead gear.
Decoys are no different than fishing lures, they are designed to catch those with the money. Any decoy species will work for any duck, growing up I could not afford many real decoys and used coke/milk jugs painted flat black as did many hunting Catahoula Lake. The family pair deal is also a waste of time IMO, ducks just don't associate with one species. |

I bought some G. gear Mallards a few years back, and the hens faded bad. Bought a dozen Greys a couple years ago.....I'll see how they hold up. They look great ! Hunted in Nebraska last December with a buddy. He bought a couple dozen Mallards made by Dakota Decoys. They are amazing with an amazing price. |

TODAY I WAS LOOKING ON MACKS PRAIRRE WINGS WEBSITE AND SEEN THESE. NOW I LOVE GHG DECOYS, BUT I THINK THIS A LITTLE EXTREME. THIS IS THE NEW TIMBER PACK FROM GHG AND IF YOU NOTICE SOMETHING DIFFERENT ABOUT THE MIDDLE BIRDS IT'S BEACAUSE IT'S A HYBRID MALLARD/BLACK DUCK CROSS. I MEAN DO THEY REALLY THINK THAT'S GONNA MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A DECOY SPREAD. IF A DUCK IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE THAT THEN HE SHOULD BE DRINKING POND WATER.
