Default Boat flooring

Removed carpet from boat floor and decks and thinking about having it replaced with sprayed truck bedliner. Has anyone here had this done? Has it held up very well? Any other thoughts? Thanks for any comments.

It holds up fine. But it's really rough on skin and gets hot.

It is a lot smoother if you use some good marine paint and just add some sand to it for texture.

I did that and it turned out great. I had line a bed in Westlake do it. The only problem is you have to buff all the glue off and I mean all of it. It will bubble up if it still has glue because the material is hot when applied. He will not warranty it for this reason. I buffed it myself because he said he would charge too much for him to do it. I brought it there once or twice and he sent me home because it still had residual glue on it. I had one small bubble but am still very pleased.

Epoxy garage floor paint with texture added. Cheap and easy.

I’ve heard of people doing sprayed in bed liner to boats and complaining that it adds a lot of weight to the boat and it getting very hot.

Hydroturf is easy, lightweight, not crazy expensive, looks nice, easy cleaning and doesn’t really get too hot. And padded for cushion on the feet. I’d use that

Have hydroturf in my latest boat and love it so far. Anyone have experience with removing/replacing it? Just curious what a PITA it will be.

Was looking at the hydroturf today. Do you have to put it over a pad or can you use it without the pad straiight onto the deck? Also, any idea what the typical life is on it? Cant find much technical information on it. Thanks for any info

Marshrunner -- your rig really looks good! I am actually rebuilding a marshrunner that i bought new in '96.

You clean surfaces with denatured alcohol. Spray 3m spray glue and peel the sticky back off and apply the hydroturf to surface. I’m very much a perfectionist at things like that and it took me about 3 hours to cut and apply to all surfaces. Not sure on exact life but 5 years still looks new. My buddy still has his which is probably 15+ years old. Now his isn’t in great shape but he uses it for duck hunting and doesn’t take care of it(ie. Never cleans the muck or brush out and leaves the boat in the sun all year long

Thanks! I had a marshrunner and really liked it. No padding needed. Just peel and stick. I cleaned the surface with alcohol before sticking. As far as longevity? I had this for 2.5 years when that pic was taken. The boat stayed in a shop but was on the water nearly every weekend if weather permitted. Also was pressure washed about once a month. That being said, it is very durable. I now have an Xpress bass boat and plan on hydroturf later in the year.

I did not use spray 3M. Just peeled and stuck it down. Not saying anything about using the glue but from my personal experience laying it on a non porous surface, you don't need the additional glue. When this stuff sticks, it sticks lol.

That was based on gatortrax recommendations so that’s what I did on both my boats. No issues, but may not have issues without it either

Thanks for the tips guys, looks like i am going with hydroturf. Got all the carpet off and had to sand all glue off. Going to recoat the open glass pores on the decks, floor and walls, paint them and then turf over the decks and floor. Thanks again!

Check eBay too, you can luck up and find rolls of that stuff for about half price. They offer a lot of colors too. Plus if you hunt out of your boat it can make it quieter when dropping shells...lol

I have it in my Gator-Trax and my Edge. I changed it in my Gator-Trax last year, after about 9 years of duck hunting and fishing. I had to by a good osculating tool to get the old turf up. After that I used acetone to get the remaining glue up. Then I took a rather abrasive grinding disk and ruffed up the surface for the new turf. All in all it took me about two days...the longest being getting the old turf up. PM me if you need more detail.
