Thumbs up Cool Quail Experience

My brother and I are sitting on the porch at the camp when we see a quail come out of brush into fresh mowed grass in yard. We started whistling and it made a sprint toward us and stopped about 5-6 yards from us and stayed around looking for the whistler for about 5-10 minutes while calling back. Learned something new it would make a very low barely audible bob before the loud bob-white call. It then ran back toward 2 smaller ones that came out and chased them back into the cover. Cool to watch and a first to have one come to a whistle.

Also jumped a deer bush hogging and saw a flock of large ducks (not whistlers so not sure what they were). All in all a great day.

It is so rare now days to hear or see a Quail......but it seams that in the past 5 years, I have heard the "Bob White" call a little more often.

About 6 years ago, we jumped a covey of 6 or 7 birds while Deer hunting at CC.

What parish is your camp?

Default Lafayette

Birds are in Lafayette parish. Our farm had them in past but drppoed off to nothing. Have worked to create habitat for them and have noticed birds for last few years. Doves have returned and seeing a bunch. Snipe and woodcock also return in winter in good numbers. Have got wood duck population in good shape also.
