Default White perch and bass- 11/21

We worked the first half of the day and then decided to hit up a few canals after lunch. Stopped fishing around 4. Caught all fish on jigs and roadrunners under a cork about 2' down in 6-8' of water. Got surprised a few times with the bass. The biggest one probably was 3 lbs or so. Definitely gets your blood flowing to catch those on a lightweight rod and reel. Ended the day with 16 white perch and 3 nice bass. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416627953.145325.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1416627998.772647.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1416628039.787414.jpg

Awesome !! I've never caught a white perch on purpose. As soon as the weather and my schedule start cooperating I'm going to give it a shot! (May have to get some pointers from ya'll)

No need for that. We caught these walking the banks.

True but if you are catching them walking the banks my brush piles might be loaded.

Just shoot me the coordinates and I will check them for you. My boat never hibernates. Besides, I wouldn't want your brush piles to feel neglected all winter.

But let me ask you this. What do you use to weight your brush down with? I have had a hard time getting stuff like Christmas trees to stay down in one place. Do you use concrete in buckets or cinder blocks tied to the trunks? And in what depth of water do you normally set them? Just curious. My grandfather was the one who used to handle the brush piles around their camp because he liked to catch white perch, but it's easier to drop a bunch of limbs around a dock with no real current to move them than trying to set them in a river or creek.

I use willow and cypress branches. No weight. I cut a 3 ft length bellow a y in the branch. I hook the y with a push pole and push the 3ft length in the mud as far as I can. I put about 10 in a circle. I put them in less than 10 fow. Me and a friend have a few that have been there for years. We go a couple of times a year on his pontoon boat and sink a few. We cut as much as we can safely haul on the boat and go a bend or 2 and sink them. We do everything on the water. I know people that do the same with bambo. The trick is to place them out of the current.

I am gonna have to give that a try. Definitely seems easier than concrete or cinder blocks. And I have a huge stand of bamboo in the yard, too.

What we use is a 12ft pole with a 1ft bar connected at one end shaped in a v. Take the v and press it in the v of the y on the branch and push it in the mud. Its easy once you get the hang of it.
