Default Anyone Elk hunted in Colorado?

Next year I want to go elk hunting in colorado. I am looking for a CMU(WMA) that is archery only with over the counter tags. Any ideas on any productive places like this? I have searched their site and there are like 100cmu's that you can elk hunt on but I cant find if any are archery only and OTC. There is SOOO much info on their site that its overwhelming. Anyone have any experience?

Hard to get non resident over the counter public land tags. You end up finding out how to get a bull tag easily over the counter let me know. IMO there is nothing out there as exciting as hunting bugling Bulls with a bow.

Go to http://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/home.php Lots of good info there and they guy's are much like we have here. Very helpful as long as it doesn't effect their hunting/fishing. They can help you out.

Here is another helpful link. http://www.backcountryhunters.org/in...ps-part-1There are several sections to this. Lots of good information and advice. I am getting ready to make a bear hunt in the spring and a Elk hunt in the fall so I am researching this stuff myself.

for the record, OTC tags are very easy to get, they are just that, over the counter and anyone can buy one. It's the limited entry areas that are hard to draw for non-residents.
If you go to the Colorado Game and Fish website, they are dozens of areas with OTC tags. Not sure about archery only, but general OTC are as easy as buying one.

Private land I've hunted in past, bull tags were $500 and cows were like $220 OTC.

those pics look very similar to ones I've taken in Jasper and Banff NP in Canada. They are not hunted, so are tame as cattle, make for great pictures.

There is a good reason for the similarity. Two of my pic. were taken in Jasper. The big elk pic was taken in British Columbia, Canada.

I was only about 50 feet from the big Elk when the pictures were taken.

I'll throw up a few photos of my last Elk hunting trip to Colorado. GMU 49 near Leadville. Everyone that calls themselves a big game hunter needs to take a trip out west and see what hunting without a blind is all about!! It's getting harder and harder to draw a non-resident tag these days. If you but an OTC Archery tag you will be hunting with other bow hunters only. The seasons are segragated by weapons. Good Luck, Baker
