Great day around the Bienvenue Wall
Well, I did pretty darn good today. If I had not run out of juice with my trolling motor I would have limited out.
Started out the day, the first two hours with only one keeper in the boat and tagged 1 trout and 1 redfish. so I moved because they were all small at the wall. Moved down the bayou about a mile and figured I would try trolling with some rattle traps that I had, and had heard works pretty well around there. Fish on within minutes of putting the rattle traps out, and had a fish on pretty much every few minutes until 1300 (1 PM) when the batteries to my trolling motor final gave in and died. at the end of the day I had: 16 trout all over 14" 24 tagged trout between 10" and 13" 1 redfish a few pictures to follow |

pretty sweet and a great reward for trying something new!
I've been seeing a lot of people trolling recently and was curious what pace everyone prefers or if you have to change it up. Also, seen folks trolling with jigs, traps and mirrodines... |

I have the minkota w/ipilot and what i did was made a track on my ipilot from where I wanted to start to where I wanted the end. Then it is autopilot from there on out. It also kept me at a depth where the fish were, which on this day was at the 15' mark. The ipilot is a must if you're trolling by yourself as it will do all the work for you and keep you at the right place. When I hooked up with a fish, then all i do his hit anchor on the trolling motor and then I can fight the fish without having to fight the moving boat. |

To add, I caught one fish on jigs all the other fish came from rattletraps, those where the key to a good day on the water. Have plenty ready however because I lost three rattletraps due to something very large out there and was cutting right through the 20lbs fluorocarbon. It would pull for about a minute, while heading right back into the Channel then the line was cut. Figured it might be a gar, but did not see any flopping on the water so not sure.
Has anyone caught any Bull Shark in the ICW or near there? |

Went again today, and did the same thing as last week... foggy, drizzled all day, and even though the temp was 61 degree's we kept our snivile gear on all day. Dang, what a wet and cold day it was...
Ended the day with 38 trout, two bass total caught. 8 keeper trout 30 tagged and released trout. Most came from the wall, and some from trolling around the ICW. it was a tough day, but at least we came away with a good dinner. |
