Default Deer Season

I can't wait for the season to start either. I am going to the camp to put up a new box stand this weekend and to fill all the feeders and cut trails to get ready to plant food plots in the coming months.

I hunt in North West Louisiana in DeSoto Parish. Anyone else on here hunt in the area of the state? Always looking to talk to people that hunt the same area and type of land to bounce ideas off of and see what you are planting.

Here area few pictures from last year

We are doing a big group hunt at Clear Creek September 18 with about 30 guys so far. If you are interested sign up at bayoubucks and you can get all the info if you want to go. I've never been there but im going to give it a try.

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess you will be camping. If the Temperature is not up tooooooo Hotttttt, I might be there. I have hunted up there for ~ 13 years now so I know the place fairly well. The problem up there is ....when you find a good area....they cut the pines after a couple of years.

I have a "New" plan that I want to try up at CC. Just need to do some more scouting to check out a couple of places that I have found.

One spot that was fairly good last fall......I found this Spring, that they the clear cut all the trees surounding this area.

Longsidelandry,

Unfortunately no, we did not see any of these brutes from the stand...only on camera. Our land it part of the Haynesville Shale gas deposit and the deer spent more of the season in hiding because of all the survey people on our land every day. I can't tell you how many times I would come to the stands in the afternoon and find survey flags. We harvested only 6 deer last year and they were all does. We have 400 acres and there are only 4 of us that hunt it and nobody saw anything over a spike and does. Not a single mature or even young buck from a stand...rough season. And actually, the one large buck in my last picture is the nicest deer we have seen on our property in years and he was the only one to show himself during daylight even on camera...all the rest are night pictures.

Hopefully this year will be different as they are done surveying and on to drilling wells which means they are only on a very small portion on our property and leave the majority of it alone so the deer are not so nocturnal.

-Jordan

here is one my buddy shot a few 100 yards from my camp last season. His gf got him a climber for Xmas. They were cleaning a deer. he decided to go try out his new climber around lunch time. decided to bring his gun. the clothes he has on was what he was wearing (jeans and a navy sweater lol) climbs up sits down and 5 minutes later this guy walks out. talk about lucky.

when i get home i will post some pics of some deer i got on camera. some monsters, have never seen any of them though.

lol Wait til you get your first one, there's nothing like bagging a deer. One of my good buddies has been a life-long duck hunter and came deer hunting with me for the first time last season. I put him on a doe just so he could get one under his belt and after he shot I called him, he could barely talk his adrenaline was so high! Now he wants to come with me every weekend lol.

I have to build one more box blind this weekend then it's up to the camp and mow my lanes and put out the new stand and put up my ladder stand for bow season. According to whunter, we have sign everywhere, so this should be a good year.

Yeah, nothing like the first one. I have been trying to get some of my friends in to deer hunting that are diehard fisherman and make fun of how much I deer hunt. Well this past year I was able to put two of them on their first deer and both of them bagged a doe. They are both hooked and are actually coming to help me at the camp this weekend put up some new stands and put their time in so they can come with me again this year.

Default Hopeful

I love to bowhunt. See deer about 50% of the time I climb with my bow. Don't kill every year, but probably could if I put the bow down and grab a rifle. Been shooting a cross bow for the last 5 years due to neck injuries. Hunt only WMA/NWR. Usually hunt Clear Creek, Bayou Cocdrie, Tensas and Buckhorn.

Having back problems this year so not sure how much hunting I will do.

those of you just starting to bow hunt is DON'T DO IT. IT BECOMES A DISEASE AND YOU CAN'T STOP DOING IT.

Hey red devil I am waiting on you to go to the camp. I am going back up there in a couple of weekends to clear shooting lanes. I will cut your shooting lanes for you. I just have to have the bushhog on my tractor. I had the disk when I went up last trip and I planted some late soybeans to see what would eat them. As you all can tell I am pumped.
