Thursday Report
The winds were calm [< 5 mph] all morning here at the house and checked the Cameron reading and they also about 5 mph so I headed to the Lake after lunch. I stopped for a couple of errands and got to Heber's about 2:30 PM. Well the Big Lake wind "factor" had kicked in and the Lake had a good chop with a 12 to 14 mph wind blowing. I talked to 2 guys that were leaving and they said the lake was calm all morning. While heading south........I debaited which way to go......Southwest [my origional plan] or get out of the wind back in the marsh for a while to see if the wind would calm down some. I went to the marsh to try in back of Lamberts because I had heard a good report of specks being caught there about a week ago. On the way, I spotted some gulls out in the lake so I made a drift but the bird and fish (?) had left when I passed thru the area. At Lamberts bayou the tide was coming in. The only thing that was biting was Lady fish and crabs. Then I got several good "taps" and the line got tight. When the fish finally came up, I was supprised to find that it was a fat 23" Trout and not a Redfish. Then I only caught more Lady fish. The wind was still blowing.....so I tried along the banks some, then at Grand bayou. I caught several rat red and more Lady fish. I finally caught a nice Red...23" long. My wife loves Reds cooked on the BBQ.....so mission completed for Friday supper. I was watching the sky to the North as it was getting a little darker.....then I started hearing thunder.....so I cranked the engine and headed in. The wind was still 12+ mph so did not try any spots on the way in. The storm stayed north of Big Lake today. The water looked to be 6" to 12" clear.....kind of hard to see when bouncing so much. As luck would have it......as I passed Prien Lake about 7:30 PM....the water was flat calm. |

My buddy Joseph went today and started on the south end with no luck. Then he cruised WAY north he said past the bridge to where he could see a Casino(the Isle I think) and from 10am - 2 pm 4 people all caught thier limits of trout while releasing 3 over 5. They are minnow chuckers through so can't help you with tackle info.
Remember- its called fishing - not catching |
