Default Crawfish Storage

Hello, I'm wondering if it is okay to keep fresh caught crawfish in a cotton game bag on ice in an open ice chest.
It would seem like it keep them wet pretty easy, but I'm afraid it might be too tight knit and not get enough oxygen going through it.
Thoughts?

Welcome to Salty Cajun web site.

You did not say how long you will keep them before boiling them.

I would not keep them in a cotton bag, but they maybe ok using the bag.

Here is how I keep crabs over night in an ice chest and this should work for crawfish.

Crabs?.Howto keep in ice chest
Keep them cool...

It is best if the ice does not touch the crabs.

Cover the crabs with a wet towel and then put a good layer of ice on top of thetowel. Then put the ice chest in the shade, crack open the drain plug and tiltup the opposite end a little so any water will drain out.

Add ice as needed. If you are buying bag ice from the store....it does not lastvery long before it melts. Ice cubes or small blocks of ice last much longer. If you let all the ice melt, the crabs will go bad in a couple of hours.

It is best if you do this away from the house.....the water will smell some.
