Don't even get me started on this...

I'm a SMP resident, born & raised. I have a letter in to Teche news also. I could see if it was a gold mine where they were getting a million or so and could truly change the education system for the better...it'll basically pay the electric bill for a week.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

My dad was on the board for 8 years from 96-04. He ran basically to oust the corrupt superintendent. He took 8 years of board pay put it into a scholarship and gave it away. But he is believer in term limits and didn't run after '04.

The SMP school board budget is roughly 6 million per month. Gives you an idea of how much this money will actually help a kids education....

very sad.

Wow, that's crazy, 450 scres for $98,000. Why not sell it to someone who's not going to cut it down.

SM parish school board did not sell the land, only contracted to have timber cut on the land they own. It would be interesting to find out if they got more than one bid for the cut or not. Timber companies usually know what they are doing when it comes to numbers/trees. SM school board should have done their own survey or atleast have an independent timber man tell them if they getting the best deal possible.

My gripe is that they act like its a renewable resource. Timber can be, however bald cypress in the atchafalaya is not. Just look at Henderson for evidence. That was logged 100 years ago. if it was a pine plantation id have no problem, or if they were getting a kings ransom(millions) and could actually have a positive affect on the schools I'd have no problem.

Trees are safe just heard that DNR has bought the timber rights for $60k but allows the school board to keep mineral rights.

Buncha treehuggers on here

Y'all think about this next time you go to buy cypress mulch for your flowerbeds or anything cypress = this is where it comes from
