Default VBay 11/16...the rest of the story

So we are heading out Wednesday morning to take advantage of the great weather. Hoping to stay close to the point since my trolling motor batteries are 4 years old and are only lasting a few hours.

We start out in Shark Bayou at dawn. nothing. We end up throwing the cast net and catching finger mullet, throw em in the bat well and off to the cove. boats are moving around at this point so we know that no one is catching. Jump to the Hammock, nothing. Decide t hit the worm. end up with a few rat reds and flounder. We run to the mouth of Bayou Blanc. Fish for a little while then tide stops. go to the mouth of East Oyster Bayou. Started catching reds, and ended up with a bull and a bunch of rat reds.

After about 30 fish the bite died off, so we run to fish a shell bank nearby. a few fish then we hit a point, and the mother load. we start pulling is specs with shrimp under a cork every cast. We quickly catch about 22 with some throw backs and the occasional rat red then the bite died. Then we switched to the mullet, bite is back on but we start catching more rat reds. The reds push the specs out so we go to readjust the boat position but the current and dead trolling motor batteries I couldn't move the boat.

Go to crank the motor and nothing. Dang, this aint good. I start working on the batteries while the guys continue to pull rats every cast.

I notice the rear livewell switch was left on... batteries being 4 years old, its dead.

Pull 1 battery and connect in parallel, nope.
pull 2nd battery and hook all 3 up in parallel, almost but no dice. Damn. Give it 10 minutes in hope of the batteries recovering. Nothing. Damn, this aint gonna be good.

try the VHF, batteries were so dead it didn't work.

This is when I call Alphaman for a rescue.

Since he is coming from Lafayette its gonna be a while, we burn through the rest of the mullet and shrimp on the rats to kill time. We caught so many rats we lost count.

Sun starts to set so we layer up with off. Bye bye sun, hello skeeters.

Spend time remembering all of the stupid thing we did in high school, watched the stars for a while and saw the super moon rise over glass calm water.

Alphaman arrives with a new battery and we are under way in minutes. Long day but enjoyed it tremendously. Thanks again Alphaman.

Maybe I missed it. I don't see where his life was in peril. Over all sounded like a pretty good trip with his buddies. Another story to talk about as well.

Got stranded twice in VBay in one month. The mosquitoes are no joke. The vermilion parish sheriff will come get you but they will not tow your boat in. They will find a good area to tie it off and bring you back to the ramp

Excellent report and great story. Reminds me I've got a couple four year old batteries that need dealing with. Glad you guys made it out unharmed.

Glad you are safe. With job transition this fall--i have not been able to fish, but am living vicariously through you guys. Marque had to come get me out of a jam last winter on a low tide, when my tilt/trim motor decided to die and I got stuck on a flat. Glad yall got on the fish.

I keep one in my truck and put it in the boat when going fishing. Used it twice this summer. Once on a dead battery in my boat and once to jump a guys truck at the landing. Worked great.
